The promise that remains when everything else fades.

Hey friend,

When I close my eyes, I sometimes imagine Jesus standing in the middle of my driveway. We have a long, winding gravel path that leads to the main road. Our home is nestled off the street, hidden behind a swath of pine trees. From the road, the view is unclear. But as you inch down the path, our house comes into view.

When I think about Jesus drawing me near, I see Him just at the edge of the bend. I walk out to meet Him. And He waits for me.

As I reach Him, I lay my head upon His chest.

And He waits for me.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

I go back to this image when my faith wavers. In those moments, I ask simple questions: Do I still love You, Lord? Do I trust You? Can I see Your hand at this moment?

On the days when everything feels like it’s falling apart — when the job changes, the diagnosis comes, the people leave — there is one truth I return to: God promises to love us forever. That is true. That is constant. That promise remains when everything else screams at us to move, change, strive, or give more than we have.

I choose to set my eyes upon the promises of God. To allow their peace to sustain me as I walk through life with my Savior.

Hand in hand. On hard days and glorious ones.

Together. We go together.

I invite you, friend, to do the same. To lay down your pursuit of purpose so you can find rest in the arms of a sovereign, holy God who loves you without blame or blemish.

Something to sit with: If you could walk out to meet Jesus today, what would you lay at His feet?

A Prayer For You

Dear Lord, may the hope and love that only You can give wash over me today. Let me choose to put on new lenses to see Your promises in all things, both the good and the hard. May You always light my path and draw me close to You. And when I stumble, shine a light onto my feet so I can walk each day with You. Amen.

This is the last devotional in this series — but it doesn’t have to be the last time these words meet you. Promise Over Purpose holds so much more of this journey. If this month gave you even one breath of peace, the full book will take you deeper. And the audiobook lets you carry it with you — on the commute, on the walk, in the quiet after the kids are asleep.

Hi! I'm Danita Cummins

Some of us are carrying more than we can name. We lead, love, serve, and show up — and somewhere in all of it, we lose sight of ourselves.I write for the faith-driven soul who needs a mirror more than a map. Weekly, I'll sit with you in the middle of the weight you're carrying — and help you see it clearly.

Hey friend, For almost 30 years, I served alongside the U.S. military. In that season, I learned something that surprised me: true strength doesn’t look the way we think it does. It isn’t loud or boastful. It comes in the quiet. In the stillness before the storm. Sometimes, strength and courage aren’t actions at all. Sometimes, they are waiting. “In returning and rest, you shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength.” — Isaiah 30:15 I think about how many of us pour...

Hey Friend, I'm writing this week from Oklahoma. I've been here for almost a month. My mom needs some extra care right now, so I've been spending time close to her — her home, her land, her heritage and the place where my family worked and prayed over for generations. And I've been spending time with the dead. Literally. There's a family cemetery not far from here, and I've found myself walking through it more than once this season. Reading the names. Sitting with the silence. Thinking about...

Hey friend, I lost my job during COVID. I’d just had foot surgery, and a few days later, a 15-minute phone call ended my position. For the next three weeks, I sat in my chair and cried. But here’s what surprised me: the grief wasn’t really about income or title. Somewhere along the way, my identity had become tangled up in what I did. When that was gone, I didn’t know who I was anymore. If you’ve ever lost a role — a job, a ministry season, a chapter of mothering that shifted — you might know...
